• Most Tijuana surgery patients cross on foot or by shuttle, not in their own car. Driving in means Mexican auto insurance, a return-lane wait, and a car to worry about during recovery.
• Many practices that take international patients offer pickup at the border or at SAN. Ask before booking whether this is included and whether it covers the return trip after post-op checks.
• Three tiers: hospital overnight (often included for the first night), dedicated recovery houses (nursing staff, meals, transport to follow-ups), and standard hotels in Zona Río.
• Some patients recover on the US side (San Ysidro/Chula Vista hotels) and cross for follow-ups. This works only if the clinic's follow-up schedule allows it and the patient has transport.
• Clinics quote in USD and take cards, but a card foreign-transaction fee and a possible 3–4% surcharge apply; ask.
